Job summary

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. This role sits inside the Office of the CTO, embedded as a founding engineer within Compliance.

You’ll identify high-value automation opportunities, prototype solutions using Coinbase’s AI platform, and drive measurable adoption across Compliance workflows. You’ll translate complex regulatory processes into engineering requirements, define build-vs-buy strategies, and ensure outputs are auditable with human-in-the-loop controls.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering and human-in-the-loop design.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows and audit-ready data handling.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase’s AI platform and advise on build-vs-buy decisions.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering constraints.
• Define the build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and ensure auditability and defensible outputs.
• Drive adoption through training, walkthroughs, and feedback loops with Compliance teams.
• Ensure every automated output is traceable with proper audit trails and human-in-the-loop controls.
