Job summary

Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society (RGS & AWS) seeks a Forest Conservation Coordinator to manage forest wildlife projects across the Southern Appalachians, including GIS work, plan writing, and contract administration. The role requires coordinating with regional staff, contractors, and partners, with field work up to 30% per year and occasional travel.

Based in a home office with core coverage in southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, and eastern Tennessee, the position combines

Qualifications

  • A degree in forestry or a closely related natural resource field, with experience in forest management, timber sale, and project administration.
  • In-depth understanding of active forest management and wildlife habitat, including connections between forest management and wildlife needs, contract administration, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience developing and implementing site-specific forest management plans or practices.
  • Excellent networking and communication skills.
  • Experience with GPS units, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office software.

Responsibilities

  • Produce active forest management deliverables for grants and agreements.
  • Develop forest management prescriptions from inventory data and science.
  • Prepare contracts and prospectuses for active forest management projects.
  • Seek prospective bidders and lead competitive bidding processes.
  • Oversee project implementation by field staff and contractors.
  • Track and report project income, payments, and deliverables.
  • Prepare and execute agreements and establish reporting schedules.
  • Coordinate with partner organizations and staff.
