Job summary

Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society (RGS & AWS) seeks a Forest Conservation Coordinator to manage regional wildlife forestry projects across GA, SC, and NC. The role includes GIS analysis, contract drafting, and coordinating field activities with staff and contractors.

The position is based in a home office with 30% field work and travel; a 6-month probationary period applies. Competitive salary and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • Degree in forestry or related field; bachelor’s with 5+ years or master’s with 3+ years preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of active forest management and wildlife habitat connections to needs; contracts, markets, silviculture, and regs.
  • Experience developing site-specific forest management plans; overseeing contractors and staff preferred.
  • Excellent networking and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of USDA NRCS/Forest Service processes preferred.
  • Experience with GPS, ArcGIS, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Produce active forest management deliverables for grants and agreements.
  • Develop forest prescriptions from inventory data and science.
  • Prepare contracts and prospectuses for management projects.
  • Seek bidders and lead competitive bidding processes.
  • Oversee project implementation by field staff and contractors.
  • Track income, payments, match, and deliverables; report progress.
  • Draft habitat restoration plans and annual work plans.
  • Conduct GIS analysis for habitat plans and mapping.
