Job summary

Haag, a Salas O’Brien company, is seeking an experienced Forensic Mechanical Engineer. This remote US-based role investigates root causes of failures in HVAC/MEP, BMS/BAS, fire protection, and related systems, delivering defensible conclusions.

Candidates must be a licensed PE, with 5–10 years in mechanical design and at least 5 years in forensic engineering. Strong writing and communication skills are essential; MS degree preferred; some travel required.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer in your state or eligible by reciprocity.
• 5–10 years’ experience designing or working with mechanical systems incl. HVAC/MEP.
• At least 5 years of forensic engineering experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently with cross-functional experts.
• Strong technical writing skills for reports.
• Excellent verbal communication and client service.
• Proficiency with industry software and tools.
• Forensic credentials (CFI/NAFI) preferred; US work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Investigate root causes and extent of failures in HVAC/MEP, BMS/BAS, and fire systems.
• Assess other mechanical failures and contribute to defensible conclusions.
• Prepare clear technical reports and present findings to clients.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients; travel as needed.
