Job summary

Rimkus Consulting Group, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with forensic consulting experience to provide failure analysis for insurance, legal, and industrial clients. The role involves field investigation, data collection, CAD work, and expert reporting, with up to 25% travel within designated Detroit-area territory.

This remote position requires residency in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Lansing, or Grand Rapids. Candidates should hold a B.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level mechanical engineering required; PE license required.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical failure analysis or forensic consulting.
• Strong ability to read and interpret codes, standards, drawings, and reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to prepare scopes of work and budgets.
• Proven project management and/or field investigation experience preferred.
• Ability to present findings to clients, management, and in depositions/trials.

Responsibilities

• Perform failure analysis for forensic assignments within mechanical engineering.
• Investigate origin, failure mechanism, and root cause of incidents.
• Inspect sites and equipment; collect data and perform 3D documentation and CAD work.
• Conduct analyses, review codes and standards, and prepare technical reports.
• Support fire and explosion investigations involving mechanical systems.
• Develop and maintain client relationships and document scopes of work.
