Job summary

U.S. Forensic seeks a highly skilled Mechanical Forensic Engineer to conduct independent investigations involving mechanical systems, machinery, equipment, plumbing components, and vehicles.

The role is remote with frequent travel to inspection sites for field investigations, evidence collection, and technical report preparation. The candidate will analyze data, determine root causes, and prepare concise reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • PE license required.
  • Experience in failure analysis or forensic engineering.
  • Experience with vehicles and electrical/fire investigations preferred.
  • Ability to write technical reports for legal/insurance audiences.
  • Ability to testify or provide deposition testimony preferred.
  • Remote or field-based work ability.
  • Proficiency with engineering software and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent forensic investigations and failure analyses of mechanical systems, building components, and equipment.
  • Perform field inspections and investigate failures involving mechanical and/or electrical systems including HVAC, plumbing, machinery, appliances, consumer products, vehicles, heavy equipment, fire suppression systems, and fires.
  • Collect, document, and preserve physical evidence from loss or incident scenes.
  • Analyze data using engineering principles, industry standards, and accepted forensic methodologies.
  • Determine root cause and contributing factors of failures or damage.
  • Prepare detailed, scientifically accurate, and concise technical reports documenting findings and conclusions.
  • Collaborate with clients, legal teams, insurance carriers, and internal staff.
  • Provide deposition or testimony support as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations, and forensic engineering best practices.
  • Travel approximately 25% for inspections and site visits.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.
