Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Payments team within the Platform organization.

You will own the architecture and technical direction of systems powering fiat on- and off-ramps for individual and institutional customers, ensuring reliability, scalability, and correctness as Coinbase expands globally. You will drive multi-year strategy, build distributed systems for high-volume traffic, and mentor engineers while partnering with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering, with payments/financial infra or high-volume platforms.
Proven ability to architect fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems at scale.
Led platform-building efforts with reusable frameworks and unified APIs.
Experience owning production reliability and incident response.
Able to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority.

Responsibilities

Own multi-year technical strategy and architecture for Payments platform across global markets.
Build and evolve distributed systems handling high-volume payment traffic with fault isolation and observability.
Establish coding standards and shared frameworks to raise engineering quality across teams.
Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Lead scaling and reliability initiatives and drive improvements from postmortems.
Provide mentorship and architectural guidance to accelerate team growth.
