Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Payments team within the Platform organization. You will own the architecture and direction of systems that power fiat on- and off-ramps across global markets, ensuring reliability, scalability, and correctness as Coinbase grows.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with payments or high-volume platforms.
• Proven ability to design fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems at scale.
• Experience turning fragmented services into reusable frameworks and APIs.
• Experience owning production reliability and leading incident response.
• Influence technical direction across teams and orgs without direct authority.
• Responsible use of generative AI to improve workflows and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own multi-year technical strategy and architecture for the Payments platform.
• Build and evolve distributed systems for high-volume payments with clear SLOs.
• Establish shared frameworks, paved roads, and coding standards across the team.
• Partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Lead scaling and reliability initiatives and drive improvements from postmortems.
• Mentor engineers and provide architectural guidance to accelerate growth.
