Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer (Uber Tech Lead) for Identity & Access Management within Platform.

You will own the long-term technical strategy across a wide IAM landscape, unifying workforce, AI, service, and workload identities for hundreds of teams. You will shape architecture, drive adoption, and partner with Security, Compliance, and product leadership to automate controls and enable auditable, scalable identity infrastructure.

Qualifications

12+ years of software engineering with senior platform leadership.
Deep IAM expertise across workforce identity, authorization, or non-human identity.
Experience with service/workload identity concepts and scale.
Strong knowledge of identity protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, SCIM).
Proven ability to translate audit/regulatory requirements into automated controls.

Responsibilities

Own the multi-year IAM technical strategy and architecture.
Drive adoption across hundreds of engineering teams and pods.
Define sequencing, migration paths, and build-vs-buy discussions for 700+ systems.
Collaborate with Security, Compliance, IT, and Infrastructure leadership.
Lead data model design to answer who has access to what and why.
Mentor staff engineers to deepen identity as a domain.
