Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. seeks a founding engineer within Finance to identify high-value automation opportunities across FP&A and Treasury. You will prototype on Coinbase's AI platform, translate complex financial workflows into engineering requirements, and drive adoption of AI tooling across the org.

You will embed with finance stakeholders, shape the automation roadmap, and ensure outputs are auditable and SOX-compliant while balancing build-vs-buy decisions and ensuring cost-quality tradeoffs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience delivering production systems in complex, stakeholder-heavy settings.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, prompt engineering, and human-in-the-loop design for finance outputs.
• Ability to quickly learn and map non-technical workflows to engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with ERP data flows, reconciliation logic, and SOX-controlled environments.
• Experience in embedded advisory roles or Forward Deployed Engineering in fintech or finance-tech contexts.

Responsibilities

• Partner with FP&A and Treasury leadership to surface automation opportunities with high business impact.
• Prototype quickly on Coinbase's AI platform and translate findings into viable builds or enhancements.
• Own the Finance automation roadmap in collaboration with leadership; translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategies for Finance tooling and manage vendor or internal solutions.
• Ensure automated outputs are auditable, traceable, and compliant with governance controls.
