Job summary

Coinbase is seeking an experienced FCM Tech Lead to own the design and architecture of the Futures Commission Merchant core, spanning market data, order routing, settlement, and risk. This role will drive a major replatforming effort while guiding teams across pods and product groups to deliver reliable, auditable systems.

You will mentor engineers, raise the technical bar, and work in a remote-first environment with quarterly in-person surges.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend engineering experience in production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with parts of the futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in regulated financial environments emphasizing correctness and auditability.
• Track record delivering end-to-end architecture and migration projects.
• Ability to mentor engineers and raise engineering quality.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data to settlement and risk.
• Lead the next-gen replatforming to reduce vendor dependencies and increase stability.
• Set technical bar through code, reviews, and standards.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver auditable systems and actionable roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers across the team and scale engineering impact.
