Job summary

D2B is seeking a Fire Alarm Design and Estimating Engineer for remote work under an Independent Contractor Agreement. You will analyze architectural plans, site media, and survey data to design compliant fire alarm and security solutions, producing detailed quotations and vendor-informed estimates.

You will work with project teams to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance with BS 5839, and alignment with client requirements across high-value proposals.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year dedicated experience designing fire alarm systems to industry standards.
• Background in system estimating, desktop surveying, or design within Fire and Security.
• Strong working knowledge of fire detection systems; familiarity with intruder alarms, IP CCTV, and access control.
• Skilled at reading scale architectural drawings and taking digital measurements.
• Solid understanding of British Standards governing fire safety installations (BS 5839).
• Ability to calculate unit margins, project costs, and produce formal quotations.

Responsibilities

• Design compliant fire alarm systems: produce layout proposals and equipment specs from drawings and surveys.
• Analyze site media: review floor plans, notes, photos, and videos to set installation scopes.
• Estimate quantities and labor: calculate cable runs, device counts, power supplies, and labor needs.
• Prepare commercial proposals: create itemized material lists, labor estimates, and client quotations with target margins.
• Coordinate with vendors: obtain current pricing to optimize material costs and update quotes.
• Identify opportunities to upgrade or modernize existing installations during design reviews.
• Translate engineering findings into clear client quotes and documentation.
• Coordinate with installation engineers, project teams, and clients to clarify requirements.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with BS standards and EN guidelines.
• Support field operations with design clarity to internal teams.
