Job summary

Protect Democracy seeks a Finance Operations Specialist to join our small, highly collaborative Finance team. You will manage the financial lifecycle of organizational spending, from budget and contract through purchase order, invoice, payment, and financial reporting.

This is a hands-on role with meaningful ownership and cross-ideological mission alignment. You can work remotely from nearly any location in the United States.

Qualifications

• Approximately 4–7 years of relevant professional experience in finance operations, accounting operations, procurement, accounts payable, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own significant portions of contract-to-payment lifecycle, coordinating cross-functional workflows from Finance review and contract execution through vendor setup, PO, invoice review, payment, renewal, and closeout.
• Develop knowledge of budgets and spending commitments to review proposed spending and connect to contracts and budgets.
• Review and process invoices, reimbursements, and card transactions with proper documentation and approvals.
• Project-manage Finance Operations initiatives across stakeholders, timelines, and decisions.
• Design and improve Finance systems, workflows, controls, and procedures (Ramp, Finance Help Desk, integrations, automations).
• Serve as a Finance partner to staff and vendors, resolving routine issues and escalating when needed.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis by maintaining committed-spend information and identifying variances.
• Contribute to year-end, audit, reporting, and systems implementation projects.
