Job summary

Movement Innovation Collaborative seeks a Director of Finance Administration to strategically lead finance operations and drive efficient, scalable processes in support of our mission.

Based remotely with a requirement to be in California, you will partner with Finance leadership, design systems, supervise outsourced accounting, and guide budgeting and reporting for leadership and the board.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in operations, project management, finance administration, or nonprofit administration.
• Experience working with financial systems such as Expensify, Bill.com, or similar platforms.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from planning through implementation, including managing timelines, dependencies, stakeholders, communications, and follow through.
• Strong experience designing, documenting, and improving workflows, procedures, and administrative systems.
• Demonstrated ability to translate broad strategic direction into clear plans, processes, and deliverables.
• Experience developing SOPs, guidance documents, training materials, and tools that support consistent organizational practices.
• Experience supporting or working within a Finance, Accounting, or nonprofit administrative function.
• Strong understanding of financial processes and internal controls, with the ability to translate requirements into practical and user-friendly processes.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and follow-through.
• Demonstrated success building systems, improving processes, and managing multiple priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to follow up with staff and external partners.
• Interest in supporting organizations working toward social change.
• Deep alignment with MIC’s mission, values, and movement-centered approach.
• Familiarity with financial systems, expense management platforms, contract management tools, or similar technology.
• Experience supporting remote teams or distributed organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Finance function and outsourced accounting.
• Oversee day-to-day operations and staff development.
• Monitor workload, priorities, and project timelines.
• Develop tools and resources to improve staff experience with Finance.
• Translate financial policies into practical guidance for non-finance staff.
• Coordinate recurring finance processes including reporting timelines and communications.
• Promote a collaborative service-oriented approach to financial stewardship.
• Lead implementation of Finance projects from planning through execution.
• Coordinate work across Finance, Programs, Operations, and external partners.
• Track deliverables, milestones, risks, and commitments.
• Ensure projects move forward with accountability and follow-through.
• Design and improve finance policies, procedures, and workflows.
• Identify opportunities to streamline finance operations and strengthen internal controls.
• Support implementation and optimization of financial systems and technology.
• Lead change management and staff training related to new processes.
• Direct Finance planning, budgeting, and operational initiatives.
• Develop and review financial reports, budget-to-actuals, and spending trends.
