Job summary

The Field Technical Engineer – Flexibles Division at TOPPAN Flexible Packaging Inc. serves as the primary technical liaison between customers and the company, focusing on qualification, technical service, and commercialization of flexible packaging solutions across assigned accounts.

The role collaborates with Commercial and Account Development teams, supports trials, translates customer requirements into specifications, and manages projects on site and remotely, with domestic and international

Qualifications

• 5+ years in flexible packaging equipment service or technical support, including maintenance or operation of equipment used for forming packages.
• Knowledge of equipment used in food packaging, retail confection, bakery, snack, coffee, frozen food, beverage, hot fill, retort, portion control lidding, perimeter of the store, or personal care markets.
• Solid mechanical, hands-on abilities, and understanding of the interaction of equipment components.
• General understanding of the materials used in flexible packaging products.
• Knowledge of numerous varieties of equipment is key.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Commercial Team and Account Development Team to identify and commercialize flexible packaging opportunities at targeted accounts.
• Support customer trials to qualify new flexible packaging structures, drive cost savings, and improve product performance.
• Translate customer requirements to TOPPAN technical personnel to build specifications and develop manufacturing instructions for our materials.
• Define project success criteria, draw conclusions based on data and experience, make technical recommendations, and manage projects.
• Provide routine technical service activity by visiting key accounts and spending time on their production floors to build relationships and optimize film use.
• Build and maintain strong operational and maintenance department customer relations at all levels of the customer organization.
• Respond to customer demands with verbal, written, and in‑person support when challenges arise, including handling materials placed in quarantine.
• Determine acceptable operating conditions for quarantined material while maintaining quality standards.
• Prepare written call reports for all customer visits, distinguishing confidential internal information from sanitized information for customers.
• Learn all aspects of packaging equipment used by customers through training and trade shows, becoming a TOPPAN expert on operation and optimization.
• Travel domestically and internationally to manufacturing plants, suppliers, customers, conferences, and innovation partners.
• Maintain complete and accurate work records and call reports.
