Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced Facility/Hospital Based Inpatient Coder for a remote role. You will research and apply coding rules, develop guidance, and support audits to ensure accurate hospital coding and compliance across the enterprise.

The role requires 5 years of expert-level coding experience, advanced knowledge of ICD/CPT/HCPCS, and remote-work capability, with travel as needed. This position is part of Integrity Operations within Revenue Cycle.

Qualifications

• 5 years of expert-level professional coding or hospital-based coding experience.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Remote workforce experience required.
• Travel exposure to road and weather hazards.

Responsibilities

• Research, interpret, and apply coding, payer, and regulatory requirements for accurate coding practices.
• Develop and update coding guidance and reference materials for enterprise consistency.
• Coordinate and support coding quality audits and track findings and corrective actions.
• Analyze coding quality data and audit results to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Prepare summaries and materials for leadership, audit reviews, and quality initiatives.
• Partner with coding leadership, clinicians, and education teams to improve documentation quality and coding accuracy.
• Support regulatory, compliance, and quality-related projects and AHIMA standards.
• Respond to internal inquiries related to coding guidance and audit outcomes.
• Support testing and workflow updates related to coding quality and compliance initiatives.
