Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced Facility/Hospital Based Inpatient Coder for a remote, full-time role in the United States. The position involves researching and applying coding guidelines to support accurate hospital coding practices across risk areas.

You will develop and maintain coding guidance, perform quality audits, analyze trends, and present findings to leadership. Travel is required occasionally, with strong collaboration across departments and remote teams.

Qualifications

• 5 years of expert-level professional coding or hospital-based coding experience.
• Advanced knowledge of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Ability to identify coding quality issues and provide improvement recommendations.
• Ability to analyze trends and data and present them in reporting formats.
• Experience with remote workforce operations.

Responsibilities

• Research, interpret, and apply coding, payer, and regulatory requirements to support accurate and compliant Professional and Hospital coding practices.
• Develop, maintain, and update coding guidance, standard work, reference materials, and position statements to ensure enterprise consistency.
• Coordinate and support coding quality audits, track findings and corrective actions.
• Analyze coding quality data and audit results to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare summaries, reports, and materials for leadership, audit reviews, and quality initiatives.
• Partner with Integrity Operations, coding leadership, clinicians, and education teams to improve documentation quality and coding accuracy.
• Support regulatory, compliance, and quality-related projects and ensure adherence to AHIMA standards.
• Respond to internal inquiries related to coding guidance and audit outcomes.
