Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum division seeks a skilled medical coder to join a full-time telecommuting role. You will apply ICD-10, CPT, and modifier rules for facility services, ensuring compliance with AHIMA/AAPC guidelines and client standards.

The position supports Remote work from anywhere in the U.S., requires 2+ years ER coding experience, and proficiency with EMR systems and Excel. A high school diploma and professional certification are required.

Qualifications

• Requires AHIMA and/or AAPC certification (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) and must be maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of Emergency Room coding experience.
• Proficient in a Windows environment, including Microsoft Excel and various EMR systems.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines.
• Adhere to coding quality and productivity targets set by Optum.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare policies applicable to coding.
• Query physicians when necessary to ensure accurate coding.
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge through QM Manager and others.
• Participate in coding department meetings and education events.
