Job summary

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) seeks an Environmental Science Specialist to review permit applications and draft AZPDES permits. You will apply knowledge across environmental sciences to identify pollutants, conduct research, and prepare limits to protect public health and water quality.

Remote work within Arizona is available. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in environmental sciences and 2–5 years of experience for Level 2, or 5+ years for Level 3, plus IPEP certification

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental/chemical sciences or related field.
• 2–5 years environmental experience for Level 2; 5+ years for Level 3.
• Professional in Training Certification (IPEP) or equivalent.
• Ability to work remotely within Arizona and travel if needed.

Responsibilities

• Review permit applications and technical submittals for regulatory adherence.
• Perform environmental calculations and analyze large datasets.
• Serve as a technical resource to facilities, regulators, and the public.
• Draft and update technical guidance documents and SOPs.
• Manage short- and long-term environmental projects under supervision.
• Respond to customer inquiries promptly and accurately.
• Review documents for adherence to AZ surface water rules and regulations.
