Job summary

EMC Insurance Companies is seeking a senior underwriting leader to direct the strategy and execution for an assigned line of business. You will serve as a senior technical expert, mentoring teams and influencing regional offices on underwriting matters.

You will guide the development of underwriting standards, evaluate financial performance, and lead cross-functional initiatives to improve profitability and growth across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in insurance/business.
• Ten+ years in commercial P&C underwriting, including 5+ years in staff underwriting.
• Insurance certifications: CPCU/AU/CIC.
• Proven leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Owns strategy, execution, administration, and development of assigned LOB.
• Leads enterprise SME and ensures effective implementation of LOB strategies, products, and programs.
• Develops short- and long-term underwriting strategies aligned to growth and profitability.
• Oversees profit and loss, maintains the LOB business plan, and aligns with enterprise goals.
• Advises on underwriting philosophy, risk acceptability, forms, rating, and risk management.
• Leads special projects and develops training materials for complex topics.
