Job summary

Sotheby’s is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead distributed teams delivering critical systems that power auctions and trusted client experiences. You will partner with product leaders to set roadmaps, hire and mentor engineers, and uphold high standards for observability, reliability, and performance across Go, Scala, and frontend stacks.

You will drive delivery cadence, manage cross-team dependencies, and champion engineering excellence in a remote-first, globally distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Proven engineering management experience with distributed or remote-first teams across multiple time zones.
• Strong technical background in software engineering with depth to guide architectural decisions.
• Experience partnering with product management to define priorities and deliver outcomes.
• Track record of hiring well, onboarding effectively, and building teams that retain talent.
• Focus on engineering quality: observability, analytics and testing practices and ship quality software.

Responsibilities

• Own the health, output and growth of an engineering team distributed across time zones.
• Partner with product management to shape your team’s roadmap and balance delivery with health.
• Set and maintain quality bar for your platform area including practices and observability.
• Run the delivery cadence: planning, prioritisation, retrospectives, and daily work.
• Manage dependencies and communication across teams to avoid gaps.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives and standards across the org.
• Handle incidents and follow-ups with a focus on lasting fixes.
• Provide regular feedback and growth opportunities for engineers.
