Job summary

Sotheby’s is seeking a Senior VP of Engineering to lead the health, direction, and output of its engineering organization. You will own the technical strategy for platforms spanning client experiences to core transactional systems and lead senior engineers, managers, and tech leads to set a high bar for talent, culture, and delivery.

You will drive architectural decisions, align with product and IT leadership, and champion Agile practices while ensuring 24x7 reliability and scalable

Qualifications

• 15+ years in software development and architecture.
• Experience with JavaScript, Python, Go or Java.
• Front-end technologies/frameworks (React preferred).
• Strong communication to translate technical topics for stakeholders.
• Experience building high-volume, scalable web services.
• Experience with 24x7 availability of services.
• Extensive Agile development experience and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases and data warehouses.
• Leadership, mentorship, and ability to influence teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering organization's technology vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap.
• Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization with career paths and accountability.
• Drive delivery of complex, cross-functional programs across client platforms and core infrastructure.
• Serve as senior technical decision-maker for architecture and build vs. buy decisions.
• Partner with Product, Data, Design, and IT leadership to align engineering with business goals.
• Establish and uphold engineering standards including code quality and testing.
• Champion Agile practices and modern delivery disciplines (CI/CD, trunk-based dev).
• Represent engineering to executives, the board, and external partners.
