Job summary

Power System Engineering (PSE) is seeking a Substation Engineer to lead design projects, oversee budgets, and collaborate with clients and contractors. The role offers exposure to brownfield design, protection & control, and utility operations, with opportunities for growth across multiple offices or remote options.

The ideal candidate has a PE license or eligibility, 5+ years in substation engineering, and hands-on experience with AutoCAD, NEC/IEEE standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred not required).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain.
• 5+ years of experience in transmission, distribution, or substation engineering.
• Strong knowledge of substation design, protection & control systems, and utility operations.
• Knowledge of electric utility systems; experience in engineering and design of electrical substations.
• Experience in power system protection, design, and operations; SEL relay settings development preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, MS Excel, and MS Word; NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation engineering projects from design through construction.
• Develop one-line/three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and AC/DC schematics.
• Provide technical consulting across substation design and utility operations.
• Manage budgets, schedules, and client communications.
• Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and contractors to ensure on-time delivery.
• Perform site visits for inspections and construction oversight.
• Support testing and commissioning of electrical facilities.
• Conduct technical reviews to ensure standards compliance.
