Job summary

The Department of Transportation in New York City seeks a City Planner to support the design and delivery of bicycle infrastructure and multimodal street improvements across all five boroughs. The role emphasizes livable streets, safety, and equitable mobility as part of the NYC Streets Plan.

Responsibilities include developing facility recommendations, conducting traffic analyses with Synchro, AutoCAD, and GIS, and producing technical reports and drawings for project development and decisions.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in city planning or related field; two years of full-time city planning experience, or an approved combination including graduate education.
Graduate education in city planning or related fields may substitute for experience as specified.
Candidates must be permanently in Civil Service title City Planner or be reachable on the open competitive list (Exam No. 5045).

Responsibilities

Manage street improvement projects through planning, design, and implementation phases.
Conduct traffic operations, safety, and before-and-after analyses using Synchro, AutoCAD, GIS, and field observations.
Prepare technical reports, drawings, and presentations to support project development and decision-making.
Coordinate with DOT units, agencies, and community stakeholders; support public outreach and meetings.
