Job summary

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is seeking a Disability Claims Examiner to manage disability benefit applications and determine eligibility under SSA rules. Training is provided for 24 months with pay increases at 12 and 24 months, and partial telework within MT may be available.

The role requires strong written and verbal communication, the ability to interpret federal/state policies, and comfort with a complex data system. Montana residency is expected.

Qualifications

• Two years of job-related work experience in case management.
• Bachelor’s degree in medical, legal, social work, or education field.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to research, interpret, and implement federal and state rules and policies.
• Ability to work with a large and complex computer/data system.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of disability benefit applications.
• Make disability determination decisions following laws and policies.
• Manage case files via the DDS electronic case management system.
• Participate in a 24-month training program.
• Collaborate with DDS team to support SSA processes.
