Job summary

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) invites applications for a Disability Claims Examiner within the Disability Determination Services (DDS) Bureau. This role handles disability benefit applications and makes determinations under SSA rules, managing records in the DDS system.

The position includes a 24-month training program with pay raises at 12 and 24 months, and comprehensive Montana State benefits.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interpret federal and state rules and policies.
• Experience with large, complex computer/data systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
• Two years of related work experience required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in related fields.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of disability benefit applications.
• Make disability determinations following federal laws, rules, and policies.
• Manage case files via the DDS electronic case management system.
• Complete a 24-month training program with phased pay increases.
• Collaborate with teams to ensure accurate determinations.
