Job summary

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking an Eligibility Advisor I for a temporary assignment in Beaumont, TX. You will assist Texans to access food, medical care, cash assistance and other social services while learning state policies.

This role trains you in eligibility rules for SNAP, TANF, Medicaid programs and uses computer systems to determine benefits. It is a fast-paced, customer-service position with potential for transfer to a full-time role.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED; college hours preferred.
• One year of customer service with public contact preferred.
• Experience interviewing clients by phone/in-person preferred.
• Fingerprint background check and E-Verify may be required.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants to determine financial eligibility for public assistance programs.
• Enter data into a computer-based eligibility system.
• Compute and authorize benefits based on eligibility determinations.
• Process work per state and federal regulations, procedures, guidelines, and timeframes.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.
