Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Electric Power Division, focusing on the design, development, and commissioning of generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation solutions for complex power systems, contributing across concept to commissioning stages.

The role requires PLC/HMI expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and field support. It offers travel in the US and a salaried exempt position with overtime eligibility.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
• Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and support proposals with Dealer/Factory teams.
• Design, program, test, and commission low- and medium-voltage generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Collaborate with CAD to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Provide technical risk assessments and field support.
• Support AES Sales and Product Support Center teams, including escalation.
• Submit project docs, reports, and expenses timely.
• Train technicians and customers on maintenance and operation.
