Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a professional in the Electric Power Division to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, leading retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning.

The role emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams, hands-on design and programming, and on-site support. Travel is required, with a strong customer-focus and technical excellence driving outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience with PLC-based controls, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
Willingness to travel 35–50% and pass background/drug screening as required.

Responsibilities

Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
Collaborate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
Perform technical risk assessment and support field performance of projects.
Provide technical support to AES Sales and Product Support Center teams, including escalation support.
Submit project documentation, reports and expenses timely.
Train and support technicians, customers and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
