Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks an Electrical Engineer for remote-based, U.S.-focused work, designing and delivering generator control switchgear automation.

You will lead retrofit and new-system projects from concept through commissioning, collaborating with dealers, factories, and end users to ensure reliable power solutions. You will develop PLC/HMI software, convert legacy PLCs, create wiring diagrams, and assess risk across projects while supporting field teams and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience with automation and controls including PLCs, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and support proposal development with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessment and support field performance of assigned projects.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses in a timely manner.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
