Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Electrical Engineer to support design, development, and implementation of generator control switchgear systems.

You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working both independently and with teams on retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning. Responsibilities include PLC/HMI development, CAD collaboration, risk assessments, documentation, and training for customers and technicians.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems and HMIs.
• Knowledge of power systems, switchgear, ATS, and generator systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Design, program, test, and commission low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Collaborate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform technical risk assessments and support field performance of projects.
• Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses promptly.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
