Job summary

Caterpillar's Electric Power Division is seeking an engineer to design, implement, and retrofit generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with cross-functional teams to execute projects from concept through commissioning.

Travel up to 50% may be required; the role is remote with U.S.-based requirements and a salaried exempt status. A BSEE or related degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience with automation and controls, including PLC-based systems and HMIs.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience with degree, or 4 years without a degree.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet background, drug, and medical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities, define project scope, and support proposal development with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of low- and medium-voltage generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and system operation.
