Job summary

Caterpillar Inc.’s Electric Power Division seeks an Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems, delivering automation and control solutions for complex power systems from concept to commissioning.

The position is remote-based with a travel requirement of 35–50% and includes a phone allowance and a company vehicle. A BSEE or BSEET is preferred, with a strong customer focus and cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience with automation and controls incl. PLC/HMI and cross-functional work.
• Remote-based role with 35–50% travel; salaried exempt with OT eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer/Factory teams.
• Design, program, test, and commission low- and medium-voltage generator control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance.
• Develop PLC and HMI apps using standard templates; produce wiring drawings with CAD.
• Perform risk assessment and support field performance; document reports and expenses.
• Train technicians and customers on maintenance and system operation.
