Job summary

Caterpillar's Electric Power Division seeks an automation and controls engineer to design, program, and commission generator paralleling control systems. You will deliver solutions for retrofit and new projects, collaborating with dealers and factory teams to ensure performance and reliability in power systems.

The role requires PLC and HMI development, legacy PLC conversion, and CAD coordination, with substantial travel (35-50%) and a strong customer-focus. Remote work within the U.S.

Qualifications

• Two+ years with degree, or four years without.
• Experience with automation and controls incl. PLCs, HMIs, and DCS.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet background, drug, and medical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and support proposals with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI apps using standard templates.
• Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform risk assessment and support field performance of projects.
