Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate coding for outpatient surgery, ED, and related encounters. You will review docs, query clinicians, and perform audits to uphold a 98% accuracy with compliant productivity.

This fully remote role requires CPC/CCS or equivalent, ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS proficiency, and experience with encoder software to support regulatory and revenue-cycle objectives.

Qualifications

• CPC/ CCS certification required or equivalent
• Experience coding and auditing outpatient, observation, ED, and diagnostic encounters
• Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines
• Experience using encoder applications and healthcare coding systems
• Ability to clarify diagnoses and procedures with physicians via coding queries
• Proven ability to meet productivity goals with 98% accuracy

Responsibilities

• Review clinical documentation and assign diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient surgery, observation, ED and diagnostic encounters.
• Communicate with physicians and staff to obtain clarification on codes.
• Use encoder tools to assign accurate codes per policies and regulations.
• Perform peer reviews and quality audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare and deliver coding audit reports and recommendations to leadership.
