Job summary

Datadog is seeking a Documentation Manager to lead a growing documentation team and deliver high-quality technical content. This remote role in North America involves collaborating with Product and Engineering to create public docs for APIs, SDKs, and developer tools.

You will mentor 3–5 writers, guide content plans, and help the team grow. Candidates should have 5–10 years of experience in technical documentation and 2–5 years in people management.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years experience researching and developing documentation for technical topics such as databases, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and performance and security monitoring.
• 2-5 years experience managing a small team of technical writers, coaching performance and guiding career growth on complex projects.
• Publicly available technical writing samples.
• Comfort reading at least two programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Python, Go, bash).
• Written or managed documentation as code; familiar with IaaS cloud services, containers, Git/GitHub and CI/CD tooling.
• Able to collaborate with product managers, developers and SMEs to create robust developer docs.

Responsibilities

• Manage 3-5 technical writer direct reports, overseeing day-to-day work, content plans, and growth.
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to maintain public docs for users, developers, and SREs.
• Research technical details by experimenting with the product, reading source code, and interviewing SMEs.
• Collaborate with the contributor community and Documentation team to improve standards and processes.
