Job summary

Datadog is seeking a Documentation Manager to lead a team of 3–5 technical writers and partner with Product and Engineering to maintain public documentation for developers, users, and SREs. You’ll research technical details by interviewing SMEs, exploring the product, and producing clear, accurate content.

You’ll champion documentation standards and collaborate with the broader team to improve processes and impact.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years researching and developing documentation for technical topics (APIs, databases, cloud infra).
• 2–5 years managing a small team of technical writers.
• Publicly available technical writing samples.
• Comfort reading multiple programming languages.
• Experience with documentation as code and infrastructure tools (IaaS, containers, Git/GitHub, CI/CD).

Job description

The Documentation team creates engaging and informative technical content, particularly our public product documentation: Datadog Docs. This is a remote role in North America.

What You’ll Do:

• Manage 3-5 technical writer direct reports, overseeing their day‑to‑day activities, helping them create effective content project plans, formally supporting their growth and development, and fostering an environment that encourages positive engagement and performance.
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams to create and maintain public documentation for users, developers, and SREs, helping them succeed with Datadog products, features, SDKs, APIs, and developer tools.
• Experiment with the product, dig into source code, and interview subject matter experts to research technical details for documentation.
• Collaborate with our contributor community and the greater Documentation team to develop and improve documentation standards and processes.

Who You Are:

• 5‑10 years of experience researching and developing documentation for technical topics such as databases, APIs, cloud infrastructure, performance and security monitoring.
• 2‑5 years of experience managing a small team of technical writers, coaching their performance, guiding their career journey, and breaking down complex projects into achievable plans.
• Publicly available technical writing samples.
• Comfortable reading at least two programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Python, Go, bash).
• Experience writing or managing documentation as code and familiarity with modern infrastructure such as IaaS, containers, Git/GitHub, and CI/CD tooling.
• Enjoy partnering with product managers, developers, and other SMEs to create robust technical documentation for developers and other user types.

Salary range for this role is $158,000 — $193,000 USD.
