Job summary

Leidos in New Jersey seeks Distribution Engineers & Designers to develop design packages for electrical distribution systems, review client scopes, and perform critical analyses including pole loading, sag, tension, and voltage drop. You will support construction, investigate outages, and coordinate with utilities on complex projects in dense urban settings.

Travel within the NJ territory is expected, with some field data collection and in-person meetings. A U.S.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of prior relevant experience is required.
• Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred); additional relevant experience/certifications may be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree
• Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approved, including Customer interaction and Process documentation
• Experience with utility reliability projects
• Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel Will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
• Willingness to perform both field and office work; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages
• Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license, as some local or regional travel is expected

Responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
• Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
• Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
• Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
