Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Distribution Designer for our Utility Services team to support projects in the greater Kansas City, MO area.

This role may be remote, but candidates must reside within about one hour of Kansas City for field data collection and design duties. The position supports pole attachment, power delivery improvements, and related engineering workflows, including GIS data analytics, work orders, invoicing, and reporting using ERP software.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years fieldwork or construction experience.
• Associates Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline with 0-2 years fieldwork interest.
• Organized and able to manage project data end-to-end.
• Ability to read engineering drawings/schematics preferred.
• Experience with electrical distribution assets or communication equipment helpful.

Responsibilities

• Identify and record field equipment and construction conditions.
• Apply NESC and client standards to complete designs for joint-use or make-ready construction.
• Analyze field data and update design software for proper implementation.
• Coordinate with clients and teammates to determine cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Travel may be required for field data collection and-site meetings.
