Job summary

Chapman Management Group, a growing property management company, seeks an experienced REMOTE Director of Accounting to lead our property accounting function and oversee financial reporting across a multi-entity portfolio.

You will manage the monthly close, ensure GAAP compliance, coach a remote team, and partner with operations to optimize processes and controls. This is a fully remote leadership role requiring ET-hours alignment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• 3+ years leading or supervising an accounting team.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Experience managing accounting for multiple entities, business units, properties, or clients.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct the monthly accounting close and financial reporting process across multiple property and ownership entities.
• Review property-level balance sheets, income statements, budget-to-actual reports, general ledgers, trial balances, and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure accounting is performed in accordance with GAAP, company policies, partnership requirements, and applicable lender or regulatory requirements.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of property accounting professionals.
• Establish clear expectations, workflows, deadlines, and accountability for the accounting team.
• Oversee cash management and monitor property-level cash needs.
• Oversee accounts payable processes and payment controls.
• Partner with operations teams to resolve resident, subsidy, utility, vendor, and property-level accounting issues.
