Job summary

Chapman Management Group, a growing property management company specializing in multifamily housing, seeks an experienced REMOTE Director of Accounting to lead our property accounting function and oversee the financial reporting, controls, and processes supporting our portfolio.

This fully remote leadership role emphasizes building strong systems and clean data, working with operations and ownership to drive accurate reporting and compliant accounting across properties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• 3+ years of supervising or leading an accounting team.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Experience managing accounting for multiple entities/properties/clients.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
• Remote leadership ability in a growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Direct monthly close and financial reporting across multiple property and ownership entities.
• Review property-level balance sheets, income statements, budgets-to-actual, general ledgers, trial balances, and schedules for accuracy.
• Ensure accounting is performed in accordance with GAAP, policies, partnership requirements, and lender/regulatory requirements.
• Review reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and other month-end entries.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of property accounting professionals.
• Collaborate with operations, compliance and executive leadership to build a service-oriented relationship.
• Coordinate audits and tax-related filings with external accountants and auditors.
• Evaluate workflows and drive process improvements, templates, and reporting tools.
