Job summary

Chapman Management Group is seeking an experienced, fully remote Director of Accounting to lead our property accounting function and oversee financial reporting for a diverse portfolio.

The role requires strong GAAP knowledge, process discipline, and the ability to coach a remote team while partnering with operations and leadership to ensure accurate, timely data and scalable controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• 3+ years leading or supervising an accounting team.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, reconciliations, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Experience managing accounting for multiple entities and properties.
• Ability to lead effectively in a remote work environment.

Responsibilities

• Direct the monthly close and financial reporting across multiple entities.
• Review balance sheets, income statements, budgets vs. actuals, ledgers, and schedules for accuracy.
• Ensure accounting is performed in accordance with GAAP, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Review reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, assets, intercompany activity, and month-end entries.
• Identify unusual activity and drive issues to resolution.
• Maintain accounting policies, procedures, workpapers, and internal controls.
• Lead, coach, and develop a remote property accounting team.
• Set expectations, deadlines, and accountability for the accounting team.
• Provide training and technical guidance.
• Evaluate workloads and staffing as the portfolio grows.
• Foster collaboration between accounting, operations, compliance, and leadership.
• Oversee accounting for multi-property portfolio including affordable and conventional housing.
• Support onboarding of new properties/clients, including COA mapping and workflows.
• Oversee cash management, forecasts, and liquidity planning.
• Oversee accounts payable and payment controls.
• Collaborate with operations to resolve resident, subsidy, and vendor issues.
