Job summary

American Rail Engineers Corporation (ARE) is seeking a Director of Engineering Services to lead ARE’s structural engineering practice. This role focuses on strategic direction, technical excellence, and delivering complex bridge projects for North American rail clients from proposal through completion.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive railroad bridge design experience, strong business and project management skills, and a passion for developing high-performing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 12+ years of structural engineering experience with railroad bridge design, rehab, and replacement.
• Minimum 3 years leading engineers and technical project teams.
• Active PE license (multi-state licensure preferred).
• Strong understanding of AREMA design standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design team for railroad bridges, culverts, and related structures.
• Set direction and execute the plan for the structural design team; ensure staff and resources for current and forecast work.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and timely delivery of calculations, drawings, and reports.
• Mentor engineers toward licensure and career progression.
• Build and maintain client relationships and pursue new business opportunities.
