Job summary

Food & Water Watch seeks an experienced Director of Foundation Relations to lead the foundations program and expand fundraising to over $5 million annually. The role is primarily remote, with occasional office visits or travel as needed, reporting to the Managing Director of Philanthropy.

The candidate will supervise a Senior Manager of Foundation Relations and a Senior Grant Writer, manage a portfolio of 100+ foundations, and collaborate across teams to craft compelling proposals and reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BS) or equivalent.
• 8–10 years of fundraising experience in a relevant field or program.
• 2–3 years of management or relevant experience.
• Proven results of securing six and seven figure grants, including management of grants from pre to post award.
• Experience with written and verbal communication directly with funders for the purposes of prospecting, cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting.
• Experience managing a portfolio of 100+ foundations, including juggling multiple deadlines, creating cultivation and stewardship opportunities.

• Ability to work remotely using basic online programs, including email, Slack, and Google docs.

Responsibilities

• Lead Foundation Fundraising Strategy and oversee national foundations program to meet annual and long-term goals.
• Build Strong Relationships with Institutional Funders by managing a portfolio to secure $5M+ annually.
• Manage a High-Performing Team, mentoring staff to meet performance goals.
• Produce and Deliver High-Quality Grant Materials ahead of submission.
• Oversee Fiscal Compliance, coordinating with finance for budgets and reports.
• Track grants in Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack and keep records up to date.
• Direct moves-management plans with tailored emails, memos, and events for donors.
• Be a Food & Water Watch Ambassador in funder meetings and staff trainings.
• Drive Long-Term Growth by monitoring progress toward strategic goals.
• Stay Informed on Campaigns by attending program meetings and updates.
• Carry out other projects as assigned.
