Job summary

GAF is seeking a Director of Environmental Compliance to establish and oversee corporate environmental programs, permitting, and regulatory compliance across locations. The role reports to the VP of EHS and leads Environmental & Compliance professionals.

The ideal candidate will drive strategy, lead governance, and provide technical leadership for remediation, wastewater, air emissions, and sustainability programs while collaborating with site teams to ensure continuous compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
• 15+ years environmental management experience, 10+ years management of people and engineering.
• Problem-solving using standard engineering / scientific methods.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders.
• Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Define and Execute Strategy: Establish a visionary 'future-state' for environmental excellence and develop a multi-phased strategy.
• Program Oversight and Governance: Lead all corporate environmental initiatives and manage vendors.
• Technical Leadership: Provide guidance to implement core compliance and sustainability programs.
• Regulatory Interpretation: Maintain expertise in Federal and state environmental regulations.
• Cross-Functional System Implementation: Collaborate with partners to ensure compliant systems.
• Permitting and Reporting Expertise: Prepare permit applications, calculate air emissions, and perform regulatory reporting.
• Operational Integration: Act as the primary environmental resource for compliance and operations staff.
• Proactive Trend Analysis: Monitor regulations and develop readiness strategies.
• Talent Development: Coach and develop EHS staff.
• Incident Investigation: Lead investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• M&A Due Diligence: Conduct environmental due diligence on acquisitions.
