Job summary

GAF is seeking a Director of Environmental Compliance to establish and oversee corporate environmental programs, permitting, and regulatory compliance across locations. The role reports to the Vice President of Environmental, Health, and Safety and guides EHS professionals in delivering compliant, sustainable operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is required.
• 15+ years environmental management experience with 10+ years in people/engineering management.
• Problem-solving using standard engineering/scientific methods.
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities while maintaining client success.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders.
• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent organizational, written and oral communication including presenting technical information.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute strategy for environmental excellence across locations.
• Lead corporate environmental initiatives and manage vendors/external counsel.
• Provide technical leadership for remediation, wastewater, air emissions and sustainability programs.
• Interpret Federal/state regulations and apply to operations.
• Collaborate with functions to implement environmental compliance systems.
• Evaluate and recommend air pollution control technologies.
• Prepare permits, calculate emissions, and handle regulatory reporting.
• Partner with operations to ensure ongoing environmental compliance at facilities.
• Monitor emerging regulations and develop proactive strategies.
• Coach and develop EHS staff and leadership.
