Job summary

Blue J is seeking a Director of Engineering to guide platform architecture and scale the team delivering SaaS tax research tools. You will shape the pillar's technical direction, coach senior engineers, and partner with product and design to turn strategy into reliable, high‑impact systems.

This role blends hands‑on leadership with systems thinking, owning roadmap creation, performance, and cost tradeoffs while fostering a culture of quality, experimentation, and customer value.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands‑on experience designing and building heavily used SaaS products.
• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including responsibility for multiple teams.
• Demonstrated ability to shape innovative products and technical direction with Product and Design.
• Strong architectural foundation with end‑to‑end system ownership and evolution.

Responsibilities

• Lead platform engineers to design and build foundational systems and internal tools.
• Navigate architecture and designs to guide teams through ambiguity and complexity.
• Coach engineers to balance speed with long‑term maintainability and scalability.
• Partner with product, design, and research to define product direction and ensure reliable delivery.
• Own the long‑term vision for platform capabilities and cross‑team alignment.
