Cardinal Health seeks a Director of Transportation – First/Middle Mile to lead US transportation across sites, optimizing the network and managing a multimillion-dollar budget. You will coordinate with cross-functional teams and external carriers to ensure on-time performance and service excellence.

You will mentor a team of about 20 professionals, drive cost-to-serve reductions, and leverage TMS for analytics-driven decisions while maintaining regulatory compliance and strong stakeholder

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in transportation and logistics, incl. 5+ years in a leadership role across multiple sites.
• Proven track record of managing large transportation budgets (e.g., $100M+) and delivering cost savings.
• Expertise in carrier management, contract negotiation, and relationship building.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate metrics and drive improvements.
• Experience with route optimization technologies and TMS.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration across levels and partners.
• Ability to develop transportation policies adhering to regulatory standards.
• Strategic thinker capable of long-term network strategy.
• Experience with customer onboarding/offboarding processes.
• Willingness to travel ~15% domestically.
• Ability to work remotely with a dedicated home/field setup.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for US first and middle mile transportation across sites.
• Lead and mentor a team of ~20 transportation professionals.
• Own and manage a ~$200M transportation budget, driving cost efficiency.
• Drive network optimization initiatives for routing, capacity, and cost-to-serve.
• Ensure excellence and consistency across national distribution and manufacturing networks.
• Lead carrier sourcing, RFPs, contract negotiations, and vendor management.
• Manage relationships with 100+ carrier partners and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Distribution, Inventory, Commercial, Marketing, Systems, and Network Design teams.
• Establish and enforce transportation policies and governance standards.
• Oversee customer onboarding, network transitions, and carrier integrations.
• Leverage TMS, routing tech, and analytics to improve performance.
