Job summary

The Director of Enterprise Professional Coding at UVA Health leads enterprise coding strategy and operations for a major academic health system. The role collaborates with physician leaders, compliance, and revenue cycle teams to drive high-quality documentation, coding accuracy, and compliant practices.

Remote work is available, enabling strategic impact across the enterprise while maintaining close alignment with clinical and operational stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10+ years of professional coding experience; 5+ years in formal management.
• Experience in a large multi-specialty academic medical center or academic faculty practice plan preferred.
• Experience with major EHR and coding platforms (Epic, 3M, Optum CAC) advised.
• Experience managing large teams, budgets, and cross-functional stakeholder relationships preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead professional coding operations across specialties and academic practice settings.
• Oversee Coding Managers, an Education Manager, and their teams.
• Partner with faculty physicians, APPs, residents, fellows, and clinical leaders to improve documentation and coding accuracy.
• Drive KPIs including coding accuracy, productivity, denial reduction, charge lag, and revenue cycle performance.
• Advise executive leadership on coding regulations, compliance, and best practices.
• Oversee compliance programs, coding audits, education initiatives, and corrective action planning.
• Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Compliance, CDI, IT, and physician practice leadership to achieve enterprise goals.
• Utilize data, technology, and process improvement to optimize performance and service delivery.
