Job summary

Zscaler is seeking a Director of Software Development to join our Production Engineering team. You will define the technical vision for a broad software domain, lead major subsystem architecture, and drive cross‑functional initiatives in an automation‑first culture.

You will mentor senior engineers, elevate design quality and observability, and build resilient, scalable systems across multi‑cloud environments to protect our global user base. Hybrid or remote in the US.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in software engineering with architecture of large-scale systems.
• Experience designing scalable, high-performance software in cloud-native environments.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Java/Go/C++/Python).
• Foundational understanding of AI/ML technologies and their application.
• Experience using ITIL during incident management and on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of highly scalable distributed systems.
• Architect major software components and review critical design proposals.
• Champion software design quality, observability, and operational readiness.
• Mentor senior engineers and attract top technical talent.
• Act as Incident Commander and develop post-incident analyses.
